Saturday’s BG International Fest & other community events are lucky to have so many supportive people in local media!  The growth of the festival is only possible because of all the DJs, writers, photographers, television hosts & management of media companies who are willing to show their support through donating advertising or featuring stories and interviews about the festival.

Our commercial spots started in mid September on WNKY NBC 40 & CBS 40.

Ads also began running on WDNS D93, bgdailynews.com, SAM 100.7, 105.3 The Point, 106.3 WOVO,  bgamplifier.com, WUHU 107FM, 96.7 The Beaver, 1340 WBGN and bgparent.com.

The interview circuit began last week with Bowling Green’s first lady of rock, Rockin’ Ronda.  On WDNS D93 Ronda, talked about her experience with the festival and we had a long causal talk about all the plans for this year and the new children’s drum circle hosted by local drummer Mac “B-Real” Gray.

This week began Monday with an early spot on WNKY’s Bowling Green Today with Morgan Watson.  We were greeted by Radar at the door and brought a handmade pinata by Ronnie Jaggers of Chiseled Features studio onset to show her.

Tuesday afternoon I had a visit  with Tommy Starr on WDNS D93.  Tommy is a big fan of HuDost and played one of their songs as well as talked about the pinatas he had seen on recent visit to Chiseled Features Studio.

Tuesday morning had begun with the Tony Rose Morning Show.  Tony and his cohorts, Kayla & Garrett the intern were having a good time with Tony’s new vampire cape.  He was thrilled when I told him Morgan Freeman had played Dracula more than anyone else and directed him to the video “I love to take a bath in a casket” from The Electric Company.  Tony always makes a point of letting his guests know how much they can save eating at all the great local establishments on our Restaurant Discount Card available at the gate.

Wednesday, on the way to work, I dropped by 96.7 The Beaver to talk with Scooter Davis and Myla Thomas.  They were fascinated with the story of Appalatin.  New this year to the festival, the band is a mixture of Appalachian roots music and Latin music.

Shortly thereafter I made a visit to WBKO’s Midday with Tina Jennings.  Tina also invited Moksha and Jemal Wade Hines of HuDost to perform live on the show.

After they played I joined Moksha for a sit down interview with Tina where Moksha explained why the group loves to make the Bowling Green International Festival part of their annual tour from Montreal.  Moksha & Jemal recently had their first child and had Grandmother along to help them for their inaugral “Baby on Board” tour.

This afternoon, I again followed HuDost over at WKCT for Drive Time with host Chad Young.  Chad shared his reflections on the many ways, including through food and music that immigrants and refugees had enriched our local culture.  He reflected on how much the festival had grown in 24 years mirroring the community’s growing diversity.  We both recalled how hard it was to find performers in the early years and how to the contrary today, so many of the acts presented are local artists.

Still to come this week will be the story by Alyssa Harvey in The Daily News for which I was interviewed on Tuesday.  Joe Imel made a visit to Chiseled Features Studio a few weeks ago to capture pictures of Ronnie Jaggers and her pinatas to post on bgamplifier.com and accompany the Daily News article.  Alyssa was also interested in talking to some of the local artists like Heritage Stage manager Armin Hasanagic who performs both traditional and pop music from Bosnian.  It will be interesting to see what she found out about this artists who gives so much to his community through his work with children.

Though, other local media have welcomed me to talk about the festival in the past and have spent the past few weeks promoting the upcoming event, it’s time to get back behind the scenes to tie up the last loose ends – except for one more stop on Friday morning to talk with our friends at WUHU.

Thanks so much to all those who provide community calendars, interviews, mentions and ticket give-a-ways to create awareness for this celebration of cultural diversity.  From school newspapers and yearbooks to blogs, website and publications as well as TV and radio, it’s impossible to avoid missing someone in our media thanks, because so many promote the event without us even knowing.  We thank you all and hope to see you out and about next Saturday in Circus Square Park!  If you take pictures or post an article about the event online, please send us the link so we can share it with our online audience!

2013 Games Around the World design by Rachel Clark.

Bryan Bostic and his staff at INI Printworks in Bowling Green are working hard to have our beautiful new shirts as well as reprinting of 2 previous designs ready for September 28.

The 2013 Games around the World design was created by Rachel Clark as part of a project in Matthew Tullis’ senior graphic design class at WKU.

The design, which features a pinata and other game pieces is being printed in Tangerine, Kiwi and Raspberry.  The raspberry games around the world as will as our previous Love in any Language design by Stacy Irvin are being showcased on V neck style shirts.

In addition more sizes of our festival logo shirt will be added to the selection of past designs that are available at the Merchandise Booth near the fountain in the middle of Circus Square Park.   Stop by and let Board member Bridget Sexton Black and her volunteers assist you in choosing a festival keepsake.

Previous available designs by local artists.

All volunteers working 3 or more shifts are given a shirt and those working for any amount of time get a $4 discount.  Visit our website at http://www.bginternationalfest.com for more information on volunteering.

Just returned from a great interview with Rockin’ Ronda of WDNS D93.  Always a pleasure to talk with Bowling Green’s queen of rock!Rockin' Ronda of WDNS D93

She was quite excited when I told her we would have more food booths than ever before.  And, we talked extensively about how our new community members from lands far away have enriched our area, including musically.

For example, I told Ronda and her listeners about an exciting new band we are having this year from Louisville – Appalatin.  Their music merges bluegrass and latin sounds – the direct result of a group of guys from Appalachia becoming friends with immigrants from South America.

The folks at both WDNS 93 & 93 WKCT AM have always been big supporters of the BG International Festival.  Each year both stations donate thousands of dollars worth of commercial spots to let people know about the event.  They are in fact, our largest radio sponsors.   Rockin’ Ronda, Tommy Starr & Chad Young always extend invitations to appear live on their shows, which is always great fun.

The festival would not be the success it is without the support of our media sponsors like WDNS and WKCT.  Visit WDNS  at www.wdnsfm.com, like them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/D93wdns and follow them on Twitter @wdnsfm.

Special shout out also to Victoria Golden-Thompson who is organizing our sponsorship drive this year including handling media releases and setting up interviews!
